Meet Kerry

In today's world oral communication skills are in high demand.  That is why I teach the programs that develop these skills.

I am an experienced and enthusiastic teacher, Adjudicator and Examiner who has teaching qualifications with the Australian Speech Communication Association (ASCA) and Trinity College London (TCL).  I have a BA in Theatre and Performance from UNE, am a member of the Australian Writers Guild and have published works (podcasts).

I am passionate about equipping each student with a toolkit of practical and relevant oral communication skills that can be used throughout life.

The boutique Speech and Drama Studio caters for children and neuro diverse students in Hunters Hill and Sydney metro.  If you are walking by you will no doubt hear the sound of laughter emanating from one of her classes, as her students explore the rich and broad range of drama artistry, including improvising, acting and miming.

Our Programs

Our programs offer tailor made courses to suit the individual's needs and focus primarily on the art of oral communication. The courses are designed to be fun and equip students with confidence and a lifelong set of practical and transferable oral communication skills.

Speech Program

You are taught how to articulately express your opinions and ideas and confidently deliver them to your audience.  You will learn how your creativity can enhance your communication skills and maximise your audience engagement.  Whether you are performing in person or for a podcast, you will develop a vocal palette that resonates across all media delivery platforms.

This program is flexible and can cater to your individual interests.

We follow the Australian Speech Communication Association (ASCA) Speech Communication syllabus.  For older students there is an option to attain the Diploma of Communication (Dip ASCA), which offers ATAR points for university entry. This is also a recognised professional qualification.

Appropriate for school age students.

Drama Program

You will work with a range of performance material to develop your skills in acting, mime and improvisation.  You will discover your creative ability through character work and performance. Your confidence and physical presence will be improved through drama exercises.

If you love writing there is an option to create and perform your own short play.

This program is flexible and can cater to your individual needs.

We follow the Trinity College London (TCL) Speech and Drama syllabus. Exams are held annually and are convened by international examiners from London.

Appropriate for school age students.

The Studio

Nestled in the garden, the boutique Speech and Drama Studio is testament to the early settlers, who moved into Hunters Hill nearly two hundred years ago.  The old stables then formed part of one of the earliest farms in the area.  The original sandstone structure has since been lovingly restored.  Kerry is delighted to be teaching now in the heritage building, offering her students a unique and private environment in which to explore and develop their communication skills, creativity and confidence.

Testimonials

"As someone that has organized international speakers to provide content to 1000s of paid attendees I understand the importance of affective and engaging speakers.  Kerry's approach to helping students understand their audience, get out of their comfort zone and think out of the square in the delivery of their information is invaluable.  I would highly recommend Kerry."  (Corporate Customer)

"You have taught me lots of speaking exercises which help in my public speaking. You also supported me in my eisteddfod by choosing my poem and helping me prepare my speech. I think that you have made me more confident in speaking and that is really important. In class we do a warm up that is helpful in getting my mouth ready. You tell us to not use unnecessary ‘likes’. I have found that lots of people say ‘like’ without noticing it and now I try not to use it.  It was encouraging that you came and watched my eisteddfod."

"Kerry is an inspiring, enthusiastic speech and drama teacher who has breadth and depth of knowledge in this discipline. My 10 year old daughter has enjoyed her lessons enormously and gained greatly from Kerry’s tuition, which has boosted her passion for public speaking. We believe that Kerry’s encouragement, patience and expert tuition helped her to gain essential skills and become more confident."      (Parent)
